THE KAT CVET

ULTIMATE CHRISTENING GUIDE

THE BEDROOM

HOW TO SET UP

When preparing your bedroom or nursery for detail shots, use a clean white bedspread that has been ironed or steamed to remove wrinkles. Avoid bold colours or patterns, as they can distract from the christening outfit and special details. Keep bedside tables simple and uncluttered — a small vase of fresh flowers can add a beautiful finishing touch.

HOW TO LAY IT OUT

Place your keepsake box on the bed or another clean surface with minimal surrounding items. We will carefully style and arrange everything for photographing. Hang the christening outfit in a well-lit spot, such as on a hook, wardrobe, or mirror, for a soft and elegant look.

THE BED SHOTS

WHAT YOU NEED

For bed shots, we recommend using a simple nappy cover or leaving bub natural for a soft, timeless look. For baby girls, a delicate bow or headband can be a beautiful finishing touch.

THE CHRISTENING GOWN

We will always photograph the christening outfit after the bed shots. We understands that for some families, this may not be the outfit bub wears to church and is instead changed into afterwards — however, the gown will still be photographed at home.

These moments include beautiful detail shots of mum dressing bub on the bed, so please ensure you are ready before this part of the session begins.

THE FAMILY SHOTS

Mornings are usually the best time for family photos, as the natural light is softer and children tend to be happier and more settled. That said, little ones may still need feeding, changing, or comforting throughout the session, so we may pause shooting at times. There can also be moments where family members are running a little behind or still getting ready.

We recommend allowing approximately 1–1.5 hours at home for the morning portion of your session. This gives plenty of time for breaks and helps ensure we capture all the special moments without feeling rushed. Sessions closer to 1.5 hours are ideal for larger families or when other children are involved. Allowing less time may mean missing out on certain shots, such as bed photos or christening outfit images.

THE CHURCH OUTFIT

This is the final outfit worn to the church, where we capture the last set of images for your session. Not every family will have two outfits, however some churches may ask bub to arrive in one outfit and then change into the main christening gown after the baptism.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER

We will do a light retouch to your images and ensure they are print ready. Light retouching includes lighting adjustments, contrast, colour correction, and minor skin retouching. It’s important that all images match and flow beautifully together.

Retouching takes approximately 2–4 weeks. Once your images are ready, they will be uploaded to a private downloadable gallery link that you can share with family and friends.

If you wish to purchase a USB in a keepsake box, it will be mailed out 1–2 weeks after your gallery link has been delivered.
